Does My Son Have A Chance To Play In The Big Leagues

I am always asked that question and the brutal truth is “I don’t know”.  If you were to look at a lot of major league players today and in the past there are a lot of us  WHO always dreamed of playing in the big leagues, but never really thought we could.

It’s easy to say “no” a certain player can’t play in the big leagues, but it’s the coach who is always looking into the “yes” he can play in the big leagues.  Statistics are certainly not favorable, but there is always a chance until that player either gives up or time runs out on signing a professional contract.

Two great stories  I heard was from a Trintarian nun I had in elementary school when she was overheard having a conversation with a little boy.  The little boy said “Sister, I cant’ make CCD tomorrow. I have baseball practice.”  Sister said, “I already taught my ‘one in a million’. I’ll see you tomorrow”!  The second story was probably the best. My son asked me “Dad, do you think I’ll get drafted out of high school?”  My honest answer was “Jeffrey, there is a 99.9999% chance you won’t get drafted”  He looked at me with a straight face and said “ So, your saying I have a chance?”

Hey, if you son can do what these players do on TV, he has a chance.
